La Gazzetta del Massachusetts is first published.
1897
[1896] The Boston Herald later calls the paper “A clearing house for Italian thought in Boston . . . so thoroughly Americanized that when viewed from a distance of 10 feet it looks like a pretty good small town newspaper fresh from the printing plant.” Purchased by James Donnaruma in 1906, it is subsequently published by his son and daughter, and is today published by his granddaughter, Pamela. Previously Republican, the paper becomes the Democratic Post-Gazette on March 2, 1962.
